There are many residents of Ladera Heights that are supporting the
following slate of three candidates in hope of promoting positive
change in the district. The current (2006) leadership of the school
district actively opposed efforts by the Ladera Heights community to
change school districts - a change that the Ladera community sought
because they percieved awful performance by the existing (2006)
leadership of the Inglewood district. Since we are stuck with the
Inglewood district for the time being, it is time to promote the
change necessary to improve it. In my opinion, that change will not
happen while the current leadership is in place. So, lets change the
leadership. We can start by voting for the candidates below.
Women of Inglewood for Schools and Excellence
Make the W.I.S.E Choice in 2007
Trina Williams (School Board Candidate, District 2)
Growing up in the south during the civil righst youth
in Inglewood. Her passion for the Inglewood community led her to
create numerous programs such as Building Achieving Minds after-school
project and Pathways to Your Future mentorship program.
Currently, Ms. Williams continues her work in education as a drama
teacher and the Development Coordinator for South Bay Lutheran High
School and Preparatory Academy. She is also the current Vice President
of the NAACP, Inglewood Chapter and a founding member of the Los
Angeles Parents Union, Inglewood Chapter. Ms. Williams is completing
her B.A. in Communications at Cal State Dominguez and has just
received a scholarship to pursue her masters at the USC Annenberg
School.
Karen Robinson (School Board Candidate, District 5)
A mother of four, Karen Robinson has experienced the best and
worst that public schools have to offer. Determined to not lose
another child to failing public schools, she sought a better public
school option for her youngest daughter and began to educate parents
on how to demand better schooling for their children.
This led her to help create the Los Angeles Parents Union, an
organization that boast 1,000 members who advocate parent involvement
and smaller schools with high expectations for every child. She is
currently a senior community organizer and a Parent University Teacher
for the Los Angeles Parents Union. Ms. Robinson sits on the Board of
Trustees of Liberty Tabernacle Church and is the proud mother of
Charles, Christina, Jeremy and Kenneth.
Earnestine Howard (School Board Candidate, District 4)
A 19-year resident of Inglewood and mother of twins,
Earnestine Howard has dedicated much of her passion to the Inglewood
community. A former PTA member of both Bennet Kew Elementary School
and Monroe Middle School, Ms. Howard has become concerned that parents
aren't made partners at school sites. As she began to network with
parents, she quickly realized that parents had to use their political
power in order to ensure the best education their children.
In 2006, Ms. Howard became president of the Los Angeles Parents
Union, Inglewood Chapter and is a member of WAPA, an organization that
advocates on behalf of African American civil servants. She also sits
on the Advisory Board of Liberty Tabernacle Church where she oversees
education courses. Ms. Howard is a 30-year civil servant, the proud
mother of Jamal and Allison (both sophomores in college) and has been
married to John Howard for over 30 years.
